Effects of Glyphosate - Link between Mood, Brain and Gut Microbiome

Effets du glyphosate - Lien entre l'humeur, le cerveau et le microbiome intestinal

When our microbiome is imbalanced, it affects not only our immune system, but also our mental health. In 2022, a study was conducted on the microbiome of over 1,000 people suffering from depression. Changes were observed in approximately 13 bacteria, and these bacteria are known to produce various neurotransmitters. 1

Did you know that in 2010, glyphosate (weedkiller) was patented as an antibiotic after decades of use as an herbicide, highlighting the compound's antimicrobial activity? Dr. Steven Gundry explains the effects of small amounts of glyphosate on the health of our microbiome; one of the recent discoveries reveals that glyphosate is:

  • Very effective at eliminating all the good bacteria in our gut. It targets, among others, bacteria in the tryptophan pathway, which produces 5-HTP, serotonin and GABA.
  • So it's damaging to the bacteria that are essential to our mood.
  • Even in very small amounts, it doesn't take much to cause damage.
  • Interestingly, this epidemic of depression and anxiety is correlated with the advent of glyphosate.
