Homemade fabric softener!

Adoucissant fait maison!

My homemade fabric softener.

As I promised, here is the recipe I used to soften my laundry.

Fabric softener scents come in many flavors, but they're all chemical! For the same reasons as laundry detergent, I make it myself. It's not complicated and less expensive!

Sometimes you might read that a simple dose of white vinegar will do the job just fine. But be careful, white vinegar can eventually eat away at the elastic bands of underwear or children's clothing.

This recipe has a pH of 5.5 which is sufficient to remove limescale and soap residue and soften laundry.

Ingredients:

  • 1 2 liter bottle, large enough and strong enough.
  • 500 ml of water
  • 300 ml of white vinegar (to change the smell, you can put 2 large tablespoons of dried lavender in a liter of white vinegar, let it marinate for 15 days to 3 weeks)
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of essential oil of your choice (lavandin, lavender, eucalyptus, orange, mandarin, lemon, mint, etc.) for scenting (optional)

The method:
1. Dilute the bicarbonate in water
2. Add the vinegar carefully; be careful, it will foam and rise. This is why you need a 2-liter bottle for about a liter of preparation, so that it doesn't overflow.
3. Add the essential oils
4. Turn the bottle upside down several times
5. The bottle will swell, this is normal; it's the vinegar/baking soda reaction that does this. Gently unscrew the cap to expel the air.
6. The preparation is ready, but I advise you to wait 24 hours for the mixture to stabilize.

Use:

Shake the bottle carefully before each use.
Put about 50/60 ml of fabric softener in the fabric softener compartment.

And there you have it! No more complicated!

I found this recipe, as well as the one for the laundry detergent I've been using for some time, on this blog , a goldmine of information!

WE ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS!

How long does it keep?

Fabric softener is mainly made up of white vinegar and water. It can be stored for a very long time. The acidity of vinegar allows it to be preserved. White vinegar does not expire.

Can you soak vinegar in rose or apple petals?

Absolutely, that's a great idea!

Since the purpose of the essential oils in the recipe is to add fragrance, can I use any other essential oil?

Of course, you can really choose the oil you prefer.
