Difference between dry and/or dehydrated skin

Différence entre une peau sèche et/ou déshydratée

What is the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin?

Most people think they have dry skin, but in most cases, it's simply dehydrated. Let me explain the difference between the two, and then I'll share some tips for everyone's needs.

Dehydration is related to a lack of water, while dry skin is related to a lack of lipids (fat). It's important to know that a lack of water is a skin condition, while dry skin is a skin type. This means that both dry and oily skin can be dehydrated. (Yes, you read that right!)

Dehydration:

We can observe skin dehydration through certain factors: Accentuated fine lines (what we call dehydration fine lines), feeling of tightness, sometimes tingling, feeling of discomfort, peeling (dead cells).

Causes of dehydration: temperature changes, hot showers, cold (shock to the skin), abrasive cosmetics, air travel, coffee, insufficient fluid intake, pollution, sun exposure, and more.

Here are some suggestions for foods to add to your meals to increase your water intake: cucumber, coconut water, spinach, celery, zucchini, radish. If you want to eat more locally, starting in the summer, you can add: watermelon, strawberries, peaches, tomatoes, cantaloupe.

Dry skin:

Dry skin does not produce sebum, it has no oil on the skin (nor at the level of the facial axis), its pores are tightened, the texture is fine, the complexion can be duller, it has a frequent feeling of tightness and it is also a skin whose signs of aging are accentuated. Unfortunately, because of its lack of lipids, it tends to age faster, hence the importance of using good fats on the skin and also consuming them.

Here are some suggestions for foods to add to your meals that are rich in good fats: avocados, flax seeds, coconut oil, nuts, olive oil.

In both cases, make sure you're using good products on your skin. Vegetable oils are wonderful allies for preserving the integrity of your skin. They're non-abrasive and provide an immediate feeling of comfort.

During this transitional period, it's an excellent opportunity to treat yourself to a moment of relaxation with a treatment in the salon. The treatments are comprehensive and provide a boost to your skin to kick-start spring.
