COPAÏBA
Copaiba essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the gum resin extracted from the Brazilian copaiba tree. This tree grows to 100 feet and produces yellow flowers and a reddish fruit. Interestingly, a single tree can yield up to twelve liters of oil per season! The resin from which the oil is extracted has been used as a native remedy since the 16th century. It is renowned for several purposes, including skin care.
Copaiba oil can be used to reduce the appearance of acne or to help clear up skin irritations. Its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties make it an ideal natural solution for those who suffer from acne. When extracted from the oil resin, copaiba essential oil can be used to effectively treat surface acne.
Researchers conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial to test the effects of copaiba essential oil on volunteers with acne. After steam distilling the essential oil and purifying it by freezing to remove any remaining water, the researchers incorporated the essential oil into a gel for testing. The gel was applied to the acne-affected areas. The results showed a very significant decrease in the area affected by acne in the areas treated with a 1.0% copaiba essential oil preparation.
