Stella McCartney: vegetarian, animal-friendly, sustainable...

Stella McCartney : végétarienne, respect des animaux, durabilité...

Stella McCartney is an English fashion designer who founded her own company of the same name. Her company is cruelty-free and does not use animal leather or fur. They use recycled polyester instead of animal leather, which is 24 times less impact on the environment (1). She claims that it is entirely possible to create luxury clothing without resorting to the use of animal fur and without compromise. Since founding her company in 2001, she has never created clothing with animal fur. Approximately 85% of the animal fur in the industry comes from animals living in captivity on fur farms...(2).

In this article you will find some points from the interview she conducted with Gwyneth Paltrow for Goop , on the subject of sustainability, vegetarianism, marriage, etc. Here is the full interview.

On his marriage...

I'm truly blessed to have met my soulmate, and I think it's incredible. Alastair is definitely the foundation of everything I do. If he wasn't here, I don't know how I could do it. He's the best dad in the world. He's a brilliant husband. He's also very creative.

About his parents...

I like to think I borrow from both sides of my parents. I like the American side of me. My mom was a New Yorker. I celebrate every second of her existence on this planet... Then I have my dad, a rock & roll star who's like, wow, what an icon again. I like that I borrow from both of my parents. I think it's a good balance.

Vegetarian diet...

On the way to dinner, people would say to me, "Oh, my God, what are you eating?" They just thought it was the strangest thing. You'd have to fight your side of the argument. It was like you were just arguing because you didn't want to eat meat or fish.

Sustainability...

I've learned how privileged I am. I'm in a position where I can make choices and I don't have to compromise. That's something you can't ignore, I think. I've been given this incredible opportunity, and I have a voice, so I have to use it. That's what really excites me about my job. I go into the office or I'm designing this store, and I think, "Okay, what can we do that's sustainable? Let's use technology to clean the air, and we'll have the cleanest air in the city in any store in the world."
