Green juices and hypothyroidism

Les jus verts et l'hypothyroïdie

People with hypothyroidism often ask me if they can drink juices or green lemonades. Here are some recommendations for you…

If you consume green juices or green lemonades that contain vegetables from the goitrogenic family: kale, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, radishes, spinach, strawberries, peaches, soybeans, peanuts; it is important to consume foods rich in iodine on a daily basis: seaweed, kelp, sea salt (Himalayan salt, fleur de sel, Celtic salt).

Ideally you should vary the green leaves in green juices, for example one day you could use kale, another day romaine lettuce or parsley or arugula, collard greens, etc. The important thing is diversity in your choice of green vegetables.

Also, if you consume a green juice with kale, do not consume other RAW foods from the goitrogenic family on the same day. Be aware that goitrogenic factors are neutralized by cooking (even steaming).

So, in summary, if you don't consume a lot of RAW foods from the goitrogenic family every day, green juices and green lemonades remain very healthy choices for you!

Don't forget to include seaweed (like kombu: easy to add to any type of soup/pasta etc) and sea salt every day.
