!We invite you to try to manage with 10 liters of water for a day.
Here is the invitation I received*:
“More than 800 million people worldwide are experiencing water scarcity – they lack safe and reliable access to clean drinking water. Women and children often have to walk for several hours every day to access dirty and contaminated water, which is their only source of water.
According to the Green Cross International, 10 liters of water per day is considered a luxury in water-scarce regions. Meanwhile, we in developed countries use an average of 100 liters of water per day!
Can we get by with less water?
I drink 2 glasses of water when I leave for the day. I like to wash my hands as soon as I get back! I also use water in the bathroom, to cook my food, to take my shower... How can I use less? Achieve it with this challenge of leaving our day with our 10 liters and see how quickly it is used up.
“Water is a basic need in everyday life, yet we rarely think about it.” I invite you to do the same, with your children too, and write about how this experience changes your perspective on the global challenge of water scarcity and cleanliness.
*Since 2011, Acqua for Life, in collaboration with the Green Cross, has provided more than 530 million liters of drinking water to nearly 80 communities in seven countries and on three continents.
