Essential oils and me!

Les huiles essentielles et moi!

I discovered a fabulous world when I was pregnant with my eldest child ten years ago. At the time, I was receiving treatments at a Montreal spa. There, I met Nathalie, a true essential oil magician. Her mother created hammams in Europe, and she had the chance to concoct magic potions from a young age. Nathalie advised me on everything: she taught me how to make my creams, and I also inherited my beauty routine from her. She was also the link with an exceptional supplier, Luc Larivée.

The latter has been in the field of essential oils for over twenty years. He met the majority of his producers during his numerous internships and seminars abroad. We can have so much fun with oils. My flower pharmacy has around thirty varieties acquired according to the seasons. I use them for our hygiene, beauty, health and ambiance care. I am lucky to be able to call Luc when I have questions of a therapeutic, cosmetic or household nature, and he provides me with information... After so many people have been asking me for my recipes, I am finally sharing this joy and his knowledge with you: don't hesitate to ask your questions!

Entering the world of essential oils makes us want to discover them all, like agarwood... Agarwood? Luc and Nathalie introduced me to it, among others! It is rare, precious and sought after for its mystical, powerful and astonishing aromatic properties. It comes from a sacred tree in India that develops the essence in its trunk and branches to defend itself against a fungus that attacks it. When we are sensitive to them, concocting "potions" with the oils is euphoric: their scents are downright intoxicating. And did you know that they nourish our body, our skin and our mind? They penetrate our blood and travel throughout our being. By applying them directly to the skin, we benefit from their benefits for a long time since they can stay in our body for up to three days. Their many virtues are therefore not only cosmetic, they have widely demonstrated their benefits in terms of our health. Thus, organic creams composed of vegetable oils (rosehip, evening primrose, borage, sea buckthorn, etc.) and essential oils nourish, purify and regenerate our skin. It is a real snack that our skin absorbs and assimilates extraordinarily well.

Since I started using essential oils regularly, I've become wary of chemicals, at least the things I can control. I limit petrochemical derivatives (and other undesirables) that come into contact with my body and that aren't organic. I feel safe using oils to make creams and perfumes. I actually make one for the boys I conceived with water and neroli essential oil, also called orange blossom. When I was pregnant, I used to put it on my stomach (mixed with other oils) for aesthetic reasons, but it seems that the oils, when they penetrate the body, can be smelled by the fetus. Even today, neroli soothes them a lot. In addition to their scent, I also make them vanilla body cream with fair trade shea butter made by women in Burkina Faso. For babies, I use shea butter alone for its moisturizing and protective qualities. I like to take care of my skin and that of my family without any risk. My babies like to eat their cream. Our cosmetic products should, in principle, be edible since they are "ingested" in the same way as the food we consume. Moreover, need it be pointed out that shea butter is widely used in Africa for cooking and baking?
