Sesame oil, multifunctional

L'huile de sésame, multifonction

A MULTIFUNCTIONAL OIL

Have you heard of sesame oil? This oil, with its very subtle scent, which can be used both in our recipes and on our skin, has countless virtues, including antioxidant, anti-wrinkle, and moisturizing properties. It's also often used in homemade cosmetics as a sunscreen to help filter UV rays. Of course, we're talking about organic, fair-trade, unroasted sesame oil here!

Here are three ways to use sesame oil in your daily life.

Mouthwash

This is an Ayurvedic ritual that Jacynthe particularly likes and is best performed in the morning on an empty stomach. It involves keeping 1 to 2 tablespoons of sesame oil in your mouth for about 10-15 minutes before spitting it out to improve your oral hygiene and detoxify your body. To learn more about this little ritual, check out Jacynthe's post on the subject.

Body moisturizer

I love sesame oil for moisturizing my skin: it applies easily to damp skin, has a very subtle scent that disappears quickly after application, and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy film. In Ayurveda, it is also known for its warming properties; so if you're always cold or it's the middle of winter, it's the perfect moisturizer!

For nails and hair

Sesame oil is known to nourish and beautify nails and hair. I also read somewhere that it promotes eyelash growth! So I use it to remove my eye makeup: I put cornflower water on a cotton pad with a few drops of sesame oil and I proceed to remove it. I even managed to remove waterproof mascara with this little recipe. And no need to apply moisturizer around my eyes; the oil has already done the job!
