I'm still in shock!! I just read this BBC article from last winter, titled:
Caution: Fire related to skin creams!
The cause? The paraffin in these creams! I certainly knew that this paraffin, which has so many nicknames, was a product harmful to the skin and health on many levels, but to go so far as to cause FIRES!
Many products on the market (including psoriasis and eczema creams, eye shadows and lipsticks, etc.) contain it. However, the article points out that people who use these creams every day and do not change their clothes and bedding regularly are unaware that the paraffin that soaks into and accumulates in the material will act as an accelerant when it comes into contact with a cigarette, a small ember, or a flame, according to a statement made by the British firefighters quoted in this article.
There are reports of more than 37 deaths (in England) between 2010 and 2016, particularly among people who smoked, but there are hundreds of thousands of people who use them, they are not certain, but it seems that there could have been more.
All this leads me to take my thoughts further... I think of those among my loved ones who regularly put this kind of cream on themselves every day and wrap themselves in a blanket (which is not washed every day) when evening comes, during the winter season, always settling down too close to a fireplace or around lit candles or during the summer season very close to a huge campfire... Oops, I prefer not to think about it!
For a few days now, I've been seeing this advertisement of a mother rubbing her child to calm his cough with one of these products containing this famous "petroleum" and I'm also thinking about this very popular trick of soaking your feet in Vaseline in the evening before going to bed in order to wake up in the morning and find them moisturized and so soft! Hence the absolute necessity and priority to persist in always raising awareness +++ among people towards completely natural products!
