Instructions for Proper Cleaning of Bottles, Pumps & Droppers
- For glass and plastic bottles, as well as lotion pumps, sprayers, droppers, and caps, wash with warm water and dish soap.
- For bottles and caps, clean the inside thoroughly and, if there is any residue, use a bottle brush to dislodge the remaining material.
- Bottles and corks can be left to dry upside down on a dish rack. These units can be air dried.
- For spray pumps, lotion pumps, and droppers, spray or dispense soapy water until all original product residue has been removed.
- Rinse with clean, warm water until all soap residue is removed.
Since water and moisture will remain inside a pump, it is best to use a disinfectant solution containing 70% rubbing alcohol. If the alcohol is 99% - dilute it with water (70 ml of alcohol with 30 ml of water).
- Place the pump dip tube in the alcohol and spray with alcohol to dislodge any remaining water in the pump.
- For droppers, suck up some alcohol and remove it.
- Remove the pump or dropper from the alcohol and continue activating it until only air is pumped out of the component. Any remaining alcohol will serve to dry and protect the internal contact surfaces.
The customer is responsible for ensuring that the container has been properly washed and prepared for reuse. Maison Jacynthe reserves the right to refuse any container that does not meet their minimum standards. Maison Jacynthe cannot be held responsible for any problems that may result from a container not properly cleaned for reuse. These cleaning tips are only suggestions, given without legal liability. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your containers are clean, sterilized, and ready for use.
You can also return your empty bottles, we will take care of reusing them, we cannot wash them for customers. We plan to offer pre-loved (recycled) bottles in the near future.
Please note that we fill our glass bottles with the same product that was present when originally purchased.
Here is a comment given by a customer who is a sterilization specialist:
''I don't work for Maison Jacynthe, but I have a degree in sterilization (one of my passions) and I have been working at the CHUM for 10 years in this field. 95% of the products you consume are not sterile and that's normal. Sterilization is a very expensive and/or tedious process (100 degree steam, gamma rays, ethylene oxide). This does not mean that the products we buy are contaminated, far from it. There are different ways to reduce bacteria to a level that is very acceptable for consumption, including certain essential oils and natural preservatives. In my humble opinion, if we return our bottles even without cleaning them to refill them with the same product, it should in no way affect the quality of the product. We must also avoid over-asepsis, which is one of the causes of many ills. https://www.ledevoir.com/.../sommes-nous-devenus-trop ... - Mémé Roy
