After the Dewayne Johnson trial, see my previous article for more details here , I came across an article on the consequences of glyphosate on bees.
A study conducted by a team from the University of Texas at Austin shows that the active ingredient in Roundup weakens the intestinal bacterial flora of bees . Indeed, when bees ingest glyphosate, their microbiota shows substantial changes. It was less diverse and contained significantly fewer bacteria in total. After just three days, the researchers established that the herbicide diminished the intestinal microbiota by reducing the presence of four of the eight dominant species of healthy bacteria in the exposed bees. When exposed to pathogens, about half of the bees with a healthy microbiome were still alive eight days after exposure to the pathogen, while only about a tenth of the bees whose microbiome had been altered by the herbicide were still alive.
In a second experiment, after 8 days, 75 to 80% of the new , uninfected workers were still alive. In the infected groups, those with a robust microbiota that had not received glyphosate showed a survival rate of about 50%. And those with a normal microbiota but that had received glyphosate did not fare well at all (10%).
