Sleep and Stress: GABA, Magnesium and Soothing

Sommeil et stress : GABA, Magnésium et Calmant

Rediscover calm, soothe your mind, and reconnect with sleep 🌙🤎

Understand the role of GABA, soothing plants, and magnesium in our nervous balance.

There are those evenings when your body is exhausted, but your mind refuses to stop. Thoughts race, the day's worries follow you into bed and, despite all your best efforts, sleep is slow to come.

Here is an overview of what our nervous system needs to regain its balance.

Calm, relaxation, and sleep rely on fascinating biological mechanisms. Certain nutrients, neurotransmitters, and plant compounds help regulate them.

This is the world in which three Maison Jacynthe formulas are rooted: Calmant, GABA, and Magnesium. Three distinct approaches to caring for our nervous balance and rediscovering the pleasure of unwinding.

Why does our brain sometimes have such difficulty shutting down?

Our autonomic nervous system has two major branches that work together.

The sympathetic system prepares us for action. It mobilizes our energy and allows us to respond to challenges, emergencies, and stressful situations.

The parasympathetic system promotes rest, digestion, and recovery.

These two systems are essential. But when worries accumulate and stress lingers, it can become difficult to shift from a state of alertness to a state of relaxation.

Yet in the evening, we need to slow down.

And this slowing down involves several mechanisms, including the activity of certain neurotransmitters, hormonal regulation, our circadian rhythm, and the availability of essential nutrients.

GABA: the brain's natural brake

GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, is one of the main inhibitory neurotransmitters in the central nervous system.

To understand its role, imagine our brain as a vast communication network.

Some messengers promote the activation of neurons. Others, like GABA, help moderate this activity.

It thus helps maintain the balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition, which is essential for the brain to function properly.

Why take an interest in it?

Because the mechanisms involving GABA play an important role in regulating anxiety, relaxation, and sleep.

However, it is important to distinguish between GABA naturally produced by our brain and GABA consumed as a supplement.

Some studies on oral supplementation suggest interesting effects on perceived stress and certain sleep parameters. However, the evidence remains limited, and researchers are continuing their work to better understand its mechanisms of action.

Our GABA formula is part of this search for a ritual that promotes returning to calm.

Calmant: the richness of plants at the service of relaxation

For generations, plants have held an important place in wellness traditions.

Some contain natural compounds studied for their interactions with stress response mechanisms, relaxation, and sleep.

This is what makes phytotherapy so fascinating: each plant has a unique composition, with its own active molecules and potential mechanisms.

The Calmant formula from Maison Jacynthe is rooted in this botanical approach.

It naturally finds its place in moments when we feel the need to slow down, step away from the daily hustle and bustle, and regain a sense of tranquility.

Magnesium: an essential mineral for our nervous and muscular balance

Magnesium is involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions in our body.

It notably contributes to normal muscle function, nerve transmission, energy metabolism, and the maintenance of electrolyte balance.

It also plays a role in the mechanisms that regulate neuromuscular excitability.

This is why an adequate supply of magnesium is so important for our overall balance.

Why magnesium bisglycinate?

Bisglycinate is a form in which magnesium is combined with glycine, an amino acid.

This form is notably appreciated for its digestive tolerance.

Glycine itself is also the subject of sleep research, although these results cannot automatically be attributed to magnesium bisglycinate.

Our Magnesium formula contains:

  • 420 mg of magnesium bisglycinate, providing 84 mg of elemental magnesium.

  • 200 mg of taurine.

  • 5 mg of vitamin B6.

Taurine participates in several physiological functions, notably in nerve and muscle tissues.

Vitamin B6 contributes to energy metabolism and the normal functioning of the nervous system.

Magnesium may also be interesting for staying asleep, according to all the testimonials received, and for relieving nighttime cramps. As with everything, results vary from person to person.

Three formulas, three complementary approaches

Their value lies in the diversity of the mechanisms they address.

GABA invites us to discover the role of inhibitory neurotransmitters and their importance in balancing brain activity.

Calmant introduces us to the world of plants and their botanical compounds studied to support relaxation.

Magnesium provides an essential mineral for the normal functioning of the nervous system and muscles.

These approaches are different. Their complementarity is interesting from a physiological standpoint.

The evening ritual: preparing your body for the night

Beyond supplements, our habits profoundly influence the quality of our nights.

Dimmed lighting, a cool bedroom, regular bedtimes, reduced stimulation, and a few minutes of tranquility can help our body recognize that the day is over.

It is also an opportunity to create a ritual that suits us.

Aromatherapy. A few pages from a book. Slower breathing. A moment without a phone. The pleasure of returning to bed.

And that precious feeling of having nothing left to accomplish.

Taking the time to be grateful.

Sleeping well is not simply about accumulating hours of rest.

It is also about giving yourself the opportunity to recover, regain your energy, support your health, and approach the next day with greater availability.

Taking care of your evenings is also taking care of your days. 🤎

Caution: natural health products must be used according to their label. Before combining several formulas, it is best to check their ingredients, contraindications, and possible interactions with a healthcare professional. Persistent sleep disorders warrant a medical evaluation.

Your testimonials:

Because your experiences are valuable, here are a few testimonials shared by our community.

Magnesium - A deeper sleep

Our lovely Hélène Brisebois shared her experience with her smartwatch, which allows her to track the quality of her sleep.

She noticed that her sleep was deeper when she took Magnesium. She even showed us the charts illustrating this difference. A very interesting experience!

GABA - A welcome new addition

Mrs. Marie-Ève is very happy that we added the GABA supplement to our Maison Jacynthe collection!

Calmant - More restorative nights

A customer shared her experience with us after living with anxiety and sleep disorders for a long time.

Despite trying several natural products, she had seen little results. Since using Calmant, she reports a significant improvement in the quality of her sleep, more restorative nights, as well as a major reduction in restlessness and nighttime awakenings.
