Collagen is everywhere. In powders, drinks, skincare products, beauty supplements.
But behind all the promises, does taking collagen really work?
The short answer is: yes. Studies¹ ³ report benefits, particularly for skin and joints.
However, not all collagens are the same, and not all the benefits attributed to them are supported by the same level of evidence.
What is collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in our body.
It is found in the skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and other connective tissues.
Our body naturally produces it from the amino acids we consume. But with age, collagen production and organization change.
In the skin, this gradually contributes to a decrease in firmness and elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles.
This partly explains the interest in collagen peptides.
Why choose hydrolyzed collagen?
Native collagen is a very large protein.
When it is hydrolyzed, it is broken down into much smaller peptides.
After ingestion, these peptides are digested and absorbed as amino acids and small peptides. Some collagen-derived peptides can be found in circulation after ingestion.
This is why the majority of research on collagen supplements uses hydrolyzed collagen peptides.
1. Does collagen work for the skin?
Several clinical trials and meta-analyses have observed improvements in parameters such as skin hydration and elasticity after regular consumption of hydrolyzed collagen.¹
A meta-analysis of 26 randomized trials involving 1,721 participants specifically observed significant improvements in skin hydration and elasticity with hydrolyzed collagen.¹
But the literature is not perfect: formulations, doses, and study durations vary, and several trials are industry-funded.¹
Therefore, we can say that the results are encouraging, particularly for hydration and elasticity, without presenting collagen as a miracle solution.¹
2. Can collagen reduce wrinkles?
Some studies also observe an improvement in the appearance of wrinkles.¹
This is consistent with the structural role of collagen in the dermis, but an important nuance must be kept in mind: drinking collagen does not mean that it travels directly to a wrinkle to "fill" it.
The process is much more complex.
Peptides are digested, absorbed, and used by the body. Some experimental data also suggest that specific peptides could act as biological signals to fibroblasts, the cells responsible, among other things, for the production of extracellular matrix components.
So we provide peptides and amino acids to the body; it then does the work itself.
3. What about joints?
This is the other area where collagen is particularly studied.² ³
Clinical trials have evaluated collagen peptides in people suffering from joint discomfort or osteoarthritis.² ³
Some meta-analyses report improvements in pain and function in knee osteoarthritis.²
However, collagen should not be presented as a treatment capable of rebuilding damaged cartilage on its own.
Instead, it can be part of a holistic approach including physical activity, maintaining muscle strength, diet, and, when necessary, medical follow-up.
4. And for hair?
We hear a lot about collagen for hair, but the clinical evidence is much less solid than for certain skin parameters.
Hair is mainly made of keratin, not collagen.
This does not mean that diet or proteins are unimportant for hair. On the contrary. But we do not currently have the same level of evidence to affirm that drinking collagen directly makes hair more abundant.
This is precisely why we must distinguish between what we hope for from a supplement and what research has actually demonstrated.
5. Why combine it with hyaluronic acid?
This is one of the keys to our formula.
Collagen and hyaluronic acid are both naturally present in our tissues, where they play different and complementary roles.
Collagen contributes to the structure, firmness, and elasticity of tissues, while hyaluronic acid is known for its remarkable ability to retain water and support hydration.
It is precisely for this complementarity that we have chosen to combine 10g of hydrolyzed marine collagen peptides and hyaluronic acid in a single daily gesture.

6. How much collagen should I take?
Studies on collagen peptides use different amounts depending on the objective and the product studied.¹ ³
For skin, several trials have used doses of a few grams per day.¹
In other contexts, particularly musculoskeletal, higher amounts are frequently studied.² ³
Our marine collagen provides 10g of collagen peptides per serving, accompanied by hyaluronic acid.
And as with many nutritional interventions, it was not an occasional intake that was studied: regularity counts.¹ ³
7. How long does it take to see a difference?
For the skin, some studies report improvements in hydration after approximately 4 to 8 weeks, while changes concerning elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles are generally evaluated after 8 to 12 weeks.¹
For joints, more patience is often required. Clinical trials generally evaluate effects after approximately 3 to 6 months of regular supplementation, depending on the populations and parameters studied.² ³
Consistency is therefore key: 10g of collagen peptides every day, rather than occasional intake.
Collagen supports biological processes that take time. It is a daily ritual whose benefits build up gradually.
So, does collagen really work?
Yes, but we need to specify what "work" means.
The data are particularly interesting for certain skin parameters, especially its hydration and elasticity.¹ Data also exist for certain joint discomforts.² ³
For other widespread promises – especially concerning hair – the evidence is still insufficient to be as assertive.
And above all, a collagen supplement does not replace an adequate protein intake, the vitamin C necessary for normal collagen synthesis, physical activity, or skin protection against UV rays.
Collagen is not magic. But when it is well chosen, correctly dosed, and taken regularly, there is real scientific data behind its use.¹ ³
