Glutathione is a small peptide composed of three amino acids: glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. It is one of the most powerful and widespread antioxidants used by our bodies.
The production of glutathione in our cells is tightly controlled by several enzymes and is increased in the presence of certain precursors, notably N-acetylcysteine (NAC).
The glutathione thus produced helps combat the harmful effects of reactive oxygen species that are produced during oxidative stress.
- Reactive oxygen species attack proteins, lipids (fats) and genetic material, contributing to several chronic disorders and diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and so on.
- Reactive oxygen species are particularly increased in the context of these chronic disorders and diseases.
In conjunction with several other Health Support components (resveratrol, hydroxytyrosol, alpha-lipoic acid and all medicinal plants, rich in polyphenols), NAC therefore helps to provide significant antioxidant power for better healthy aging.
