B vitamins: cognition and aging

It has recently been shown that nutritional factors and individual micronutrients can impact brain and cognitive performance, particularly in older adults. The B vitamins folate, B12, and B6 are of particular interest given that subclinical deficiencies of these vitamins are common in the general population and particularly in older adults. Recent studies have demonstrated an association between these B vitamins and many aspects of cognitive performance and have raised the possibility that subtle differences in nutritional status may exert a subtle influence on some aspects of cognitive performance, particularly in older adults and clinical populations. Preliminary evidence suggests that supplementation is also effective in improving cognitive performance in older adults. Important considerations for future research, including the use of placebo-controlled intervention studies, sensitive outcome measures of cognitive performance, and exploration of bioavailability and dose-response relationships, are paramount. 1

Another study shows us that deficiencies in folate, B (12) and B (6) vitamins are associated with neurological and psychological dysfunction and birth defects. Cognitive impairment and cases of dementia may be related to the high prevalence of insufficient vitamin B status in the elderly and increases in blood homocysteine levels. There are several plausible hypotheses to explain homocysteine neurotoxicity, vasotoxicity and impaired S-adenosylmethionine-dependent methylation reactions, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the central nervous system. Taking this into account, it is imperative to find safe ways to improve vitamin B status in elderly individuals. While taking care not to expose certain individuals to excessive risks. 2

Vitamin B according to Dr. Mark Hyman

B vitamins serve as essential cofactors for many enzymatic reactions in the body to produce brain neurotransmitters and support mitochondrial energy production. Existing research suggests a link between B vitamins and cognitive function in older adults, but more in-service studies are needed.

Vitamin B9 according to Gary Brecka, biologist

Methylfolate (Vitamin B9), a natural form of folate, has many advantages over synthetic folic acid. 1

For example, methylfolate is well absorbed and its bioavailability is not affected by metabolic defects.

In our Total Multivitamins, there are 160 ug x 5 (maximum suggested total dosage) = 800 ug.

Vitamin B9 (methylfolate) is a water-soluble vitamin that includes chemically similar compounds essential during periods of rapid cell growth and division, in the maintenance of new cells, and in the manufacture of DNA and RNA. Although it is primarily known for its support for pregnancy and fertility, there is growing recognition that it also has benefits for cardiovascular health, mood, and cognition, as this study tells us. 2

In particular, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate has been evaluated as a better alternative to folic acid supplementation.

Electrolytes – True Hydration

Electrolytes Mineral Drop - Claims : A source of magnesium and potassium for the maintenance of good health. Magnesium helps the body metabolize carbohydrates, proteins, and fats and contributes to the development and maintenance of bones and teeth, tissue formation, and proper muscle function.

This product contains traces of 70 naturally occurring minerals and trace elements found in the Great Salt Lake, an inland sea. Electrolytes are extremely important for overall health.

Electrolytes according to Dr. James DiNicolantonio

Drinking plain water is NOT the best way to hydrate. Our bodies need electrolytes to hydrate properly so that fluid stays in the body and is not simply urinated out.

Camu camu according to Dr. Josh Ax

Camu camu contains about 60 times more vitamin C than an orange and 56 times more than a lemon, 10 times more iron and three times more niacin than an orange.

Enzyme and digestion

VitalCâlin , 100% enzymes

The older we get, the fewer digestive enzymes our bodies produce. Processed foods and cooking destroy virtually 100% of the natural enzymes in food.

According to Dr. Jean-Pierre Willem , several factors can harm digestion: poor diet, overeating cooked and processed foods, alcoholic beverages, infection, stress, pregnancy, etc. Not to mention several ailments such as fatigue, constipation, heartburn, headaches, and bloating are synonymous with inadequate and incomplete digestion. He tells us that it is nevertheless essential to be healthy to have a good digestive system, since this allows for the optimal release of nutrients contained in the food we eat, which are essential for producing energy, building and repairing tissues, and maintaining a strong immune system.
