My mineral sunscreen

Ma protection solaire minérale

While the big trend is towards mineral sunscreens, I am happy to recall that I was already talking about them in the summer of 2015 (on May 22nd more specifically)! I was already exclaiming about their effectiveness and their effect on our skin in addition to the benevolent aspect because they are free of toxic ingredients.

For my sun protection - Vanilla Shea & Zinc Oxide My sun protection - Vanilla shea butter & Zinc oxide

Sunscreen: what is it made of?

Ours is enhanced with shea oil, vanilla oleoresin, CO2 sea buckthorn oil and essential oils of wild orange, petitgrain, and neroli that help the skin absorb the sun's rays, as well as a hint of vegetable glycerin that gives it a sublime texture.

Our zinc oxide, without nanoparticles, blocks and reflects the sun's rays!

-The Environmental Working Group states that zinc oxide is the sunscreen that has the longest track record of safety. (1) Regular zinc oxide is one of the most effective, established, and safest sunscreen ingredients available. (2)

My sun protection in 4 steps

For this homemade mix, it is important to ensure that the mixture is uniform, that the zinc oxide is well incorporated into all the shea butter; obviously, we cannot guarantee the results since we cannot prepare the mixture for you.

  1. Remove the contents of our vanilla shea butter (50 g).
  2. Place the shea butter in a saucepan and melt in a bain-marie ( 30 seconds ) and remove from the heat.
  3. Then add the zinc oxide (7.5 g), mix well until you get a smooth and uniform texture.
  4. Put the contents back into the container and freeze for 15 minutes !

* Note that I will also use it in the months following its preparation.

* Here is the method in video below!

Its advantages

  • The base is 100% natural and active , everything serves the skin.
  • No white film appears as a residue.
  • By applying it before going out in the sun (after our beauty ritual), our skin becomes more beautiful! (Shea butter forms a lipid film on the surface which prevents dehydration, its emollient character also allows our skin to keep its suppleness and softness ).

What to use after sun

A body serum with rosehip at the top of the list, to help the skin regenerate while restoring carotenes degraded by the sun, in order to repair what could have been damaged (our collection of face serums, which are also the best after-sun products that can exist, for the same reasons, virgin rosehip at the top of the list of all active ingredients). In virgin rosehip, transretinoic acid or tretinoin is proven effective in cases of sun-damaged skin and age spots. (3)

Its main assets are: (4 and 5)

  1. A high richness in water, polysaccharides, minerals and vitamins: moisturizing, emollient, insulating and protective actions; sugars are capable of retaining large quantities of water.
  2. Glycoproteins and lectins: healing and regenerating effect by stimulating the growth of fibroblasts, keratinocytes, collagen synthesis and ground substance, it is therefore also an anti-aging agent in addition to being a moisturizing agent.
  3. Enzymes: anti-inflammatory and healing actions.
  4. Saponins: antiseptics.
  5. Aloesin: a substance that inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and reduces the pigmentation action of melanocytes.
  6. Thanks to its moisturizing and regenerative qualities, it is an excellent anti-aging product which has the particularity of boosting the production of fibroblasts, it is also effective in preventing dark spots.
  7. It is also capable of absorbing some UVA radiation.

Finally, don't forget that the skin is an extremely important elimination organ and that its pores must be free to breathe and eliminate:

  1. Do not use aluminum which prevents perspiration, opt for a natural deodorant .
  2. Do not use petroleum derivatives which also block skin pores (they are found in the majority of common traditional cosmetic treatments and makeup, often listed second).
  3. Do not use synthetic ingredients or silicones from this world that leave a waxy feeling on the skin.
  4. Do not apply alcohol to the skin before sun exposure to avoid the appearance of pigment spots.
