Energy on your plate!
In Quebec, television star Jacynthe René is also a highly inspiring figure in the world of wellness. For Votre Beauté, she's created a delicious spring treatment that promises to reawaken our "youthful vitality." We want to try it!
A vibrant flow and a Quebec accent, as charming as it is disarming: everything rings true with Jacynthe René. The Canadian actress doesn't need to overact to sell her "lifestyle" rather than "a diet." Her daily life, so far from the glitz, speaks for itself. Based in the village of La Prairie, she cultivates her vegetable garden, develops recipes from her books, gives conferences, and launches an alternative school in her neighborhood, as well as a garden where children reconnect with the sensation of nature. Not to mention a line of cosmetics based on essential oils and a natural beauty salon concept that's gaining traction.
This Wonder Woman draws her strength... from her plate! Vegan, she also excludes gluten, refined sugar, and dairy products. "Even if we're not allergic to these foods, our body exhausts itself processing them, and ends up discarding them. This waste accumulates in the intestine and around the cells. Inflammation increases, as do the symptoms. The solution: an easily digestible diet, rich in vitamins and minerals," explains the bestselling author. Less waste around the digestive process. More vitality. Fitness returns, and so does the figure. "When the cells have what they need to function, they no longer cry out for hunger. This satiety signals the end of the yo-yo effect specific to diets. And when the intestine is clean, we feel cerebral and emotional well-being, and our skin becomes beautiful," adds Jacinthe René.
The muse's watchword: organization. "Study recipes, make shopping lists, check your equipment... Once you've acquired the reflexes, you can prepare healthy and tasty meals in ten minutes. Make your gluten-free soups, bread, and cookies on Sunday for the week and buy frozen vegetables if necessary." In spring, in practice, the actress recommends a cleanse that emphasizes green, raw vegetables, rich in chlorophyll. "This new plant blood concentrates the sun's energy and a wealth of cleansing enzymes." Consume first thing in the morning! After a cup of hot water with detoxifying lemon juice upon waking, Jacynthe René recommends a juice or smoothie of green vegetables and fresh fruit (see box). At lunch, extend the spring cleaning with "a mountain of salad and sprouted cereal shoots, to make yourself on the balcony!" The resulting shoots contain between 20 and 600 times more nutritional qualities than the starting ingredient." They are rolled by the handful in seaweed or rice sheets, which are then dipped in an exquisite, nutrient-rich sauce made by emulsifying nut butter or sesame puree with a little water, maple syrup, and miso paste. Fresh fruit? "On an empty stomach, upon waking, or as a snack, away from meals to avoid fermentation." Feeling peckish? One of the variations of Jacynthe's famous "energy balls" (see her website). In the evening, make way for cooked grains (quinoa, amaranth, millet, rice), eaten with vegetables sautéed for a few minutes over low heat, with coconut butter. Sprinkle everything with nori sheets for a salty flavor, hemp, pumpkin, sunflower, chia, or sesame seeds for crunch, and cold-pressed vegetable oils (olive, flax, or hemp). "It tastes good," as they say at her house. We want more!
Inter: plant enzymes for a big spring cleaning
Her latest published book, Délices Détox , (Editions Cardical, $35) is the sequel to Vive la détox gourmande, which has just arrived on shelves and has been reprinted for the eighth time in a year. More information, tips, and recipes at maisonjacynthe.ca
Box: Extracted juice, centrifuged juice or smoothie?
Jacynthe René prefers a juice extractor to a centrifuge. "Easier to clean, it retains more enzymes, with strong cleansing power." Consumed on an empty stomach, these juices are absorbed in fifteen minutes. Smoothies (made in a blender) also retain enzymes, but their absorption time is longer. Boost your preparations with watercress – ultra-purifying –, maca seeds – energizing – or fruit or almond milk for a gourmet touch. Drink two liters of water daily, taking in a pinch of sea salt with each glass to hydrate the interior of your cells.
