1- Why this craze for "detox"?
Because we need it: more and more people are suffering from different symptoms, discomfort, and are not feeling good about themselves, while we all want to increase our vitality and achieve a well-being that allows us to live our days well. Detox is not a fad, but a lifestyle that affects a growing number of people: those aged 60 and over like to go back to it, young people in their 20s are adopting cycling and green juices directly, mothers (40 years old) literally need it.
2- Does every organism tolerate its effect well?
Of course: it's not a new diet but one that eliminates everything that is indigestible to embrace everything that is nutritious and energizing. Machined and processed ingredients are set aside to favor natural foods, we are all made to eat well! What I like about my recipes is that they are delicious, we love them, we come back for them... the secret is in the sauce! Trying my salad dressings means adopting them, wanting to make our guests savor them and it also means being impatient to eat our vegetables. Why then try another recipe or another habit of this lifestyle (because more than just a recipe book, I also offer inspirations for everyday life that invigorate, we can't make changes or miracles with simple recipes, but with a lifestyle yes!) and want to continue always more? Because we feel good! We find our adolescent energy again, our sleep at night (we are no longer tired in the afternoon), we feel light and vibrant... that's how good it is to be and to live! We don't want to give up this well-being! Of course we have a fries or a dessert here and there, but we want to find our good "feeling" again so we return to our recipes that make us feel good!
3- What is the habit or food that contaminates the most?
What contaminates the most in my opinion is what is processed, chemical, manufactured (pesticides, aspartame and other inventions that end up in our food), which our body does not recognize. It then puts it aside. By constantly putting these intruders aside, our systems find themselves clogged, blocked. Hence the malfunctions, the inflammation... In addition, what remains in our body can obviously putrefy... Nothing happy!
While the recipe that does the most good: green juice, most likely. I receive impressive testimonials (one who needed white chocolate in the morning at the office who no longer wants it since she started drinking her green juice, others who find unsuspected energy, or even who lose weight naturally) simply because green juice can provide in 20 minutes, the nutrients of 4 pounds of vegetables (and one or two fruits for sweetening): our cells need these nutrients, when they have their essence to work, they no longer cry out for hunger! If we send empty calories to our body, it will keep asking for more since it needs real nutrients: minerals, vitamins, etc. If you do not have access to green juices or a juice extractor, starting your days, on an empty stomach, with smoothies offers a similar result (the difference between juices and smoothies: smoothies retain fiber, which is good and supportive, but they must be digested to reach the phytonutrients, which is not the case with juices with which we directly offer our metabolism what it needs)
4- How does good breathing affect general well-being?
Breathing is the foundation! Breathing deeply relaxes and gives us confidence if we are stressed, it brings us back here (before eating too, it is important to come back to your body to help it digest!), can energize in the middle of the afternoon if we are tired (by breathing faster), can also help us sleep well at night or simply make us appreciate the moment, life! A trick that provides a lot of energy and relieves tension at the same time, to adopt on a daily basis: lie on your back for a few minutes, let weightlessness work in our favor (we continually fight against it) and breathe into your belly. In addition to relieving back pain, this trick gives energy to complete your days.
5- What do you think about the idea that it is always better to eat lunch like a king and dinner like a pauper?
It depends on the person. Personally, I drink my breakfasts (smoothies and juices) to get the necessary nutrients but keep my energy (instead of devoting it to digestion). No matter our constitution, I certainly believe that starting with a smoothie is an excellent idea because the enzymes in the plants will clean our system; if we eat copiously, the enzymes are no longer free to do their work. There is also a way to eat in the morning and gain energy (this is always my goal!): all my snacks and desserts are invigorating. So we can have a smoothie and when our body asks for it, draw on nutritious snacks (gluten-free, lactose-free which are less digestible) or a lunch of quinoa, banana bread, etc. In the evening, I never feel heavy because my meals are highly digestible even if they are generous!
6- Do you sometimes give up dessert?
I'm pregnant right now and I don't want to!!! Otherwise, I like to have my desserts in the morning, after my drinks, as snacks when I want to crunch. I don't refuse my desserts (they are really nutritious snacks) but I don't feel obligated to have them. If I need them after a meal, it's a sign that my meal wasn't nutritious enough (and that's quite rare when you eat properly! But don't be fooled, I've already had lunch with sugar pies to continue fueling on white sugar all day, I'm starting from a long way back, it's a sign that this lifestyle is accessible to everyone!).
7- Since when have you had an “aromatic pharmacy”?
Since my first pregnancy, 12 years ago. I suddenly became "afraid" of everything chemical, both for my skin and for my environment (household products). 9- How much time do you spend preparing food each day?
5-10 minutes! I'm very busy and all these recipes are easy to make! On Sundays, I make 2 snack recipes. Every day, a smoothie: 5 minutes maximum, a salad dressing: 5 minutes too, then it keeps for 2 weeks, my Okinawa quinoa (dinner adjusted with the vegetables of the day) is also quick, I fry an onion, I pour in the quinoa, I mix it well with the onion, I add water; I stir in something else while it cooks (15 minutes), at the end, I add miso, this fermented paste with a thousand virtues, for the taste and the properties and I add sesame seeds, raw or cooked vegetables (spinach, kale ...) and I enjoy. Quinoa is a base that can be used with anything we have in the garden or the fridge!
10- Are there really “ethereal” pancakes?
"Airy," yes! Delicious, I even received journalists with them for the launch of my skincare range! This word is chosen to evoke their lightness (while remaining delicious)
11- Are snacks effective when dieting?
I don't suggest a diet! But a lifestyle that you want to grow and stick with. Of course, you can go to the snack bar, maybe not if you want to be in full possession of your means and spend a light and energized afternoon, but I suggest balance and also having fun. I don't convey restriction but pleasure and abundance. I function and I always come back to what invigorates me by allowing myself a fry here and there!
12- Why should we believe in so-called 'superfoods'?
I don't like to convince people of the effects of this or that food. I like to experiment and make up my own mind. Some 'superfoods' aren't for everyone: some people get dizzy with chlorella, for example. You don't need a superfood directly. If you like the recipes offered that are based on quinoa or other gluten-free grains, vegetables, seeds and nuts, you will already regain your energy and well-being (also skin that gains in quality, eyes that sparkle, sleep regained, etc.). You will then be able, in a second step, to try one superfood at a time (with online shopping today, everything is accessible) in your smoothie, in energy balls, maca for example. If the Incas drew their vitality from it, why not us? I also really like algae; you have to see their benefits on Asian populations to be convinced. They add flavor and support our health like no other ally.
13- What is the most surreal nutritional consultation you have been asked?
Probably because I am very generous in my books and on maisonjacynthe.ca (I respond before anyone asks), I receive many more testimonies of life changes than requests for consultation. In cases where I cannot answer, I refer to my circle of doctors and nutrition consultants or health experts who can guide. While at first I only wanted to share energizing recipes (since my quest was to no longer be tired), I receive many more testimonies: relief from serious symptoms that prevented the good life comes every day: from ulcerative colic to respiratory problems, from inflammation to irritable bowel, from bloating to obesity, I see everything relieved before my eyes, confirming that I am in the right place and motivating me to continue even more. I mention it again, there is no need to change completely or do a 180 degrees in the first minute after reading my book. All you have to do is find an inspiration that you like and live with it to quickly see the well-being gained: you are the only judge, experience and enjoy this increased vitality for a more enriching and easier life while allowing yourself treats and good times!
14- Which recipe from your book “Detox Gourmand” do you enjoy cooking the most?
My must-haves that I cook every day and that give me pleasure: essential lemonade (green juice), gourmet smoothie, Okinawa quinoa, my gluten-free bread, my banana bread! I could live with these recipes alone!
