"As you know, different companies organize their business models to respond, to adapt to a specific economic model. That's how it works, that's what the top business schools teach.
At Maison Jacynthe, we've never taken this approach. In fact, we rarely negotiate prices with the people we work with. In fact, our only questions, our only concerns, are about quality . And we go to great lengths in our demands! This has always been the case, and the more we evolve, the better we become.
I often say that we have the resources of a large company with the vision of a smaller company, which still has a customer-oriented, product-oriented approach . And that's what keeps us going!
At first, Jacynthe didn't really want to start a business. I had to convince him, and it wasn't easy! Some concepts didn't interest him at all. The only concept that interested him was making a difference in people's health, in people's lives .
Since few people had access to what we wanted to promote, we wanted to share it. It became increasingly difficult, but we managed, thanks to business ties, to offer you quality products, raw materials, and ingredients.
We have a supply, a "sourcing", that I don't think any other company in Canada can have access to.
Our business model is to offer you an exceptional product and if sometimes this product does not prove profitable, well we will live with it if necessary! Of course, we have a large structure with 14 stores that we must maintain. We chose to sell directly, not to go through large stores which impose a very particular business model, that is the reason why we got out of it.
We had a lot of pressure, a lot of invitations to go to all the big stores you know in Quebec and even in Canada. We were the most popular company in all the big stores where we were present at the time. We weren't second or third, but by far the first! We backed down and it was problematic, I won't tell you about the legal aspects and everything, but we had to do it in order to have the flexibility to be able to perform these gymnastics that we are describing to you in order to offer you exceptional products. Sometimes, this comes with consequences like products that are sometimes more difficult to explain to our accounting department!
This is part of our mission and we will never change .
We see the equation a little backwards when we talk to our suppliers. And that too will never change because it's what makes Jacynthe agree to play this role. She wouldn't be able to do this job if we hadn't had this approach; she wasn't interested in business at all!
Initially, we went through a phase where the idea was to make products of this quality accessible to as many people as possible. There are sometimes limits to our raw materials, which are not unlimited. We have to buy at a certain time of year and, above all, maintain close ties. We have become very good at this, and we like it.
We never compromise, we never have and I guarantee you we never will. "
Jacynthe - what sets us apart:
“Another thing that sets us apart is that everything we offer you, we consume it, we live with it . We don’t make things to sell them, we make them first for ourselves, to meet needs, to improve our quality of life. Then, afterwards, we share.
We ask our formulators - pharmacists, researchers, biologists, chemists - to find us the best, to make the best formula, with the best ingredients. When they ask us what the budget is, what the restrictions are, we tell them there are none, that they have carte blanche. Through their 35-40 years of experience as consultants, as formulators, they tell us that it has never happened to them to have carte blanche, that they always have financial challenges. We tell them to go for the best, that we will arrange the price later!
