The solution to prevent disease and feel better_ Dr. McDougall

La solution pour prévenir les maladies et se sentir mieux_ Dr McDougall

What if we've been wrong, writes Dr. John McDougall. For years, we've been told that to be healthy, we should eat meat, chicken, and fish, and avoid carbohydrates and starches. What if it's all wrong, and we're eating the wrong kind of food?

Judging by the state of our health? Maybe so!

"The truth is that only complex carbohydrates like whole grains, legumes, and root vegetables provide our bodies with the essential nutrients that satisfy our appetite as well as keep us healthy, feeling good, and in the best shape possible."

By eating mostly vegan, of course we lose excess weight, we regain our energy and we live longer and stronger.

Without necessarily praising or believing everything I read, I suddenly feel like I understand, that I have the key to explaining this general malaise that emanates from our society, from the lack of liveliness and the increasing number of diseases that surround us. We cannot say that we are healthy.

What if all this was made up? I feel like I'm in a movie.

Here is the observation made by Dr. McDougall: The food industry began to "push" meat, poultry, fish, and eggs as essential sources of protein and dairy products as essential sources of calcium, even though calcium and protein deficiencies were nonexistent (except in cases of famine where all nutrients were lacking). So, by the 1960s, everyone was absolutely convinced that protein and calcium were the most important nutrients to obtain for health and longevity, even though there was no scientific reference to support this claim. In fact, research at the time was beginning to link chronic diseases to excessive consumption of meat and dairy products and to the absence of fiber, essential vitamins and minerals, and other plant-derived nutrients.

He also writes that industries today "own" the research, the newspapers that publish it, and the other media that broadcast their advertisements.

It seems that by 2030, according to current projections, 44% of Americans will be obese (not overweight, but obese).

So, a few pages into my reading, Dr. McDougall notes that no cases of protein deficiency have been reported with a natural diet, even if it is plant-based. On the other hand, excess protein is a major embarrassment for the kidneys and liver, while excess animal protein leads to a loss of calcium from the bones, resulting in osteoporosis and kidney stones.

On the calcium side, the same thing: no deficiency has ever been reported from a vegan consumer, the primary cause of osteoporosis being excess animal protein. Another lie according to him: fish offer the best source of essential fats while only plants produce omega 3... that fish get them by consuming algae. Why not go directly to the source then and eat plants?
