Homemade sugar shack

Cabane à sucre maison

Homemade sugar shack!
What do you do when it's the weekend, there's beautiful snow outside, and you have a can of maple syrup?
We boil it, it's quite quick, we stay close to it because when the syrup wants to overflow, we add a spoonful of coconut oil, then we wait 3-4 minutes while doing tests on snow (we send the children to prepare a bowl for the tests and a bigger one for the treat!) until the taffy stays on the surface (no need for a thermometer).
We then remove it from the heat and pour our taffy onto the snow in the middle of the children and adults gathered in the kitchen!
We also pour some into a few cups (fill 1/4 full) and stir with a spoon until the taffy changes color, when cooling, it becomes maple butter.

And Caro's great idea: keep a bowl of snow in the freezer to recreate this celebration in the middle of summer!

In the video, Caroline has just added the spoonful of coconut oil, which causes the boiling syrup to fall back down. We filmed it for the show "Vive" but since it's now sugar-coating time, I wanted to share it with you right away!
