Compact Oregano – Essential oil
Format: 5 ml
Certified pure
Origin: Turkish
Very popular in the kitchen, this oregano! In ancient Egypt or Rome, it was already used in perfumery and aromatic care, especially known for its very powerful broad-spectrum anti-infectious activity. Carvacrol, often present at more than 60% in oregano oil, is the compound mostly responsible for its antimicrobial action, an action that thymol, in smaller quantities, will reinforce. 1
A study conducted in 2021 aimed to determine the chemical composition and inhibitory effects of essential oils of Origanum compactum L. and Mentha piperita L. (Lamiaceae) alone or in combination against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.2 This is the first time that a combination of these two essential oils has been reported to combat foodborne pathogens such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The main constituents of O. compactum L. essential oil were determined as carvacrol, thymol, p-cymene and α-terpinene, and for M. piperita essential oil, menthofuran, menthol, methyl acetate, 1,8 cineole and β-pinene were the main compounds. The mixture of essential oils showed a strong synergistic effect against E. coli. It was concluded that a mixture of essential oils provides a better antimicrobial effect against the tested bacteria than that of the essential oils alone.
Very effective, however irritating, be careful, never apply it pure!
