Kale

50 g

This variety of kale has a lighter green canopy and grows taller than Brassica oleracea. Rest assured, it's still as delicious!

Kale is an easy 5-day sprout that grows well in a jar or sprouting tray. It also grows lovely microgreens!

  • Days to Sprout Sprout- 4-5 Microgreen- 10-14
  • Soak Time 2-8 hours
  • Yield 1 tbsp of dry seed yields approx. 3-4 cups of sprouts.
  • Storage Our seeds should sprout well for a year after you purchase them, if stored in a cool dry place. If you'd like to extend the germination life of your seeds, store them in the fridge. If you store your seeds in the freezer, they'll last even longer!

Rich in vitamins K, C, B6, and E, folate, dietary fiber phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium.

Did you know?

During World War II, the cultivation of kale in the U.K. was encouraged by the Dig for Victory campaign. The vegetable was easy to grow and provided important nutrients to supplement those missing from a normal diet because of rationing.

Jar Method:

  • SOAK 2 to 8 hours – Put 1-2 Tbsp. seed in a wide mouth jar. Cover jar with sprouting screen lid. Add water, swirl, and drain. Refill jar with water. Soak seeds 2 to 8 hours. Drain water well and invert jar at an angle in a sink or a bowl.
  • RINSE twice a day – Rinse seeds by refilling jar with water and gently swirling. Drain well and invert jar.
  • ENJOY! Ready to eat in 5 days – To keep fresh, refrigerate well drained sprouts. Sprouts store best when fairly dry- do not store immediately after rinsing.

Tray Method:

  • SOAK 2 to 8 hours – Rinse enough seed to cover the bottom of the sprouting tray. Cover seed with water for 2 to 8 hours. Drain, holding at an angle to remove excess water. Spread seed evenly on bottom of sprouting tray. Cover with lid or plastic bag.
  • RINSE twice a day Rinse with water, using either gentle flow from tap, dipping in a sink, or spraying.  Drain thoroughly.
  • ENJOY! Ready in 10 to 12 days – Refrigerate to keep fresh. Harvest by cutting above roots as needed. Microgreens store best when fairly dry- do not store immediately after rinsing.

Info: Sprouted seeds have between 4 to 40 times more nutrients than their mature counterparts. (1)
