Hyaluronic Acid, where is it found?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found in our tissues and fluids in our body. It is found, for example, in the vitreous humor of the eye and the synovial fluid of the joints where it allows the sliding of bone surfaces. The skin is the most important reservoir.

In particular, in the dermis, hyaluronic acid is less concentrated in the epidermis.

Essential for maintaining the structure of the layers of the skin, just like the collagen which gives its firmness, hyaluronic acid nourishes and hydrates the collagen.

What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid for the skin?

Did you know that a hyaluronic acid serum is a way to fight dehydrated skin, explains Michelle Henry, dermatologist trained at Harvard. It retains water in tissue like a sponge. The hyaluronic acid molecule can fix and attract up to 1000 times its weight in water.

By combining with water, hyaluronic acid fills intercellular spaces, which contributes to its exceptional moisturizing power and results in lasting beauty. The skin becomes soft, smooth, elastic and toned.

"It is a sugar that is found in our skin and is naturally depleted with age, which is why it is important to incorporate it into your skin care routine via topical products", explains Orit Markowitz, dermatologist and founder of Optiskin Medical in New York. "It works to retain moisture inside, which leads to hydrated, plumped skin and a more youthful appearance."

N.B .: With age, the amount of hyaluronic acid gradually decreases. The skin dries up, becomes fragile and the first signs of aging appear. Gradually, the tissues relax and the face becomes hollow. These imbalances are accentuated with menopause and also with photo-induced aging (due to UV rays).
